The Local Area

​

Wylde Goose Peak District holiday accommodation is located less than 2 miles away from the historic “Queen of the Moorlands” market town of Leek which boasts many antique and independent shops as well as cafes, pubs and restaurants. Leek has weekly markets and a monthly fine food market and has its own Leek Arts Festival throughout May.

​

The renowned spa town of Buxton is only a 20 minute drive away offering shops, markets, spas, a lovely park and of course, The Buxton Opera House.

​

The City of Stoke-on-Trent has been shaped by its production of pottery for centuries. Factory tours, outstanding visitor centres and museums, and hand-on opportunities including the chance to throw your hand at the potter’s wheel plus numerous factory outlets including Wedgewood, Emma Bridgewater and Denby.

​

There is also the beautiful market town of Bakewell (the home of the Bakewell Tart!) only 20 miles away with the stunning Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall only a short drive from there.

Our holiday accommodation is in a superb location for many activities including outdoor pursuits, cycling and walking as well as endless popular attractions. We’ve listed a few here below:

Peak Wildlife Park (5 miles) – Offering a truly unique and immersive animal experience. Whether you love lemurs, have a passion for penguins or want to wander with the wallabies (and feed them with your hand!), the park has something for you. Not forgetting, of course, the new additions - the polar bears!

Tittesworth Reservoir (6 miles) – With its nature trail, visitor centre, adventure playground and water-based activities.

Rudyard Lake (6 miles) – With a range of activities from walking, cycling, fishing and a small railway.

Alton Towers (10 miles) – The largest Theme Park in the U.K., also with Water Park, Spa and Mini-Golf.

Daltons Dairy (10 miles) – With honesty shop selling handmade ice cream and other products with outdoor seating and countryside walks.

Biddulph Grange Garden National Trust (11 miles) – A masterpiece of Victorian garden design – a quirky, playful paradise.

The Heights of Abraham (25 miles) – Hilltop park reached by cable car, with cavern tours, walking trails, fossil exhibitions and café.

Gullivers Kingdom (25 miles) – A children’s theme park specially designed for families and younger children.

Churnet Valley Steam Railway – With stations at Cheddleton (5 miles) and Froghall (7 miles).

There are so many ways for you to appreciate the natural beauty of the Staffordshire Moorlands and the Peak District with numerous countryside walks you can start straight from the front door, and within a few miles you are in the Peak District where there are many beautiful spots for walks such as The Roaches, Dovedale and Castleton to name a few.
You also have the Manifold Valley, Monsal Trail, Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail which are all excellent cycle tracks with bike hire options available.
